Don’t Be a Stranger by Susan Minot
Don’t Be a Stranger is an achingly honest novel about of a woman at mid-life who is swept into a love affair with much younger musician.
It’s a gripping and provocative exploration of sexual attraction and self-discovery. Susan Minot effectively “captures each of the emotional states on the roller coaster of erotic fascination, delusion, bliss, mania, devastation” and also “the emotions and responsibilities of motherhood and of a career as a writer.”
One of my favorite lines from the book is when the gay male friend warns “as long as you know that you’re licking honey from the razor blade.” Oh snap!
This book is for you if:
You are a fan of Miranda July's All Fours or Ada Calhoun’s Crush.
You’ve ever been in a situationship.
You’ve experienced “sporadic, withholding, inscrutable texts and bouts of ghosting.”
