Playworld by Adam Ross

Clocking in at 500 pages, Playworld is a big book and a dark bildungsroman. It tells the story of an enthralling, transformative year in the life of a child actor coming of age in a bygone Manhattan.

This novel explores how a “boy lost in the house of adulthood” is “trying to learn how to be one of the people he sees around him.”

I did hybrid regular book/audiobook and I preferred the audiobook.

This book is for you if:

  • You’re still getting over Donna Tartt's The Goldfinch.

  • You’ve always had a sweet spot for Holden Caufield and Garp.

  • You enjoy 80’s nostalgia: think Dungeons & Dragons, The Love Boat, MTV, etc.

P.S. Don’t miss the Friends Academy cameo!
